The Ontario economy is going to begin reopening today.
Ford said that the proper framework has been put into place to reopen the economy. He said beginning today, Ontario residents will start working again as quickly and as safely as possible.
"Today garden centres and nurseries can fully open just in time for mothers day and tomorrow hardware and safety supply stores will open their doors. On Monday thousands of people will go back to work," said Ford.
He added that retail stores with street entrances will start opening for curb-side pickup.
Finance Minister Rod Phillips said they will soon be able to provide further details on the stages necessary to move towards reopening.
When asked about frontline healthcare workers who are still struggling to acquire the proper PPE, Ford said that he is frustrated to hear those stories adding that PPE is available for long-term care facilities. He recommended calling his office to those still seeing this issue saying, “We’ll have it over there.”
When speaking about the U.S. border, Ford said he was adamant on the phone with premiers and the Prime Minister that he does not want the borders open. He said BC and Quebec felt the same way. He added that when the time does come to reopen the borders, screening needs to be drastically picked up.
