The Canadian government is set to announce Tuesday that they will be lifting the vaccine mandate for domestic travel and outbound international flights, CBC News reports.
The network reports that the vaccine mandate may return if a new variant of COVID-19 spreads across the provinces.
The vaccine mandate has been in effect since October 30, 2021, which makes Canada one of the last nations to lift the restrictions on its citizenry.
Earlier this year, Ottawa garnered world attention when Canadian citizens protested alongside truckers that were refusing to comply with the vaccine requirements.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau contracted COVID-19 just ahead of the Trucker Convoy and he tested positive for the virus again this week.
Federal Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said the vaccine mandate was to keep travellers and employees in the industry safe.
