BREAKING: Poilievre says NDP-Liberal coalition is 'turbo-charging' Justinflation in new budget

Conservative Finance Critic and leadership frontrunner Pierre Poilievre released a video following the announcement of the Trudeau Liberals' 2022 budget, which was tabled on Tuesday.

The new budget commits billions in new spending at a time where Canadians are already dealing with high gas and grocery prices.

"I'm just learning that the NDP-Liberal coalition budget adds $50 billion of inflationary new spending," said Poilievre in a video shot from British Columbia.

"As you know, the cost of government is already driving up the cost of living as Trudeau doubled the debt to over $1 trillion and end hundreds of billions of new dollars chasing fewer goods."

Poilievre said that Trudeau drove up inflation to "thirty-year highs," saying that "here in BC, we have the third-most expensive real estate on planet earth, food prices have risen to the point where single moms have to skip meals so their kids don't have to, gas is up to $2 a litre in this city."

Poilievre said that Canada's problems were all being caused by its government. "Government taxes and government deficits. More expensive government means a more expensive cost of living. And now the Liberals are turbo-charging inflation— or Justinflation as I like to call it.

"I will be voting against this Liberal-NDP budget. Not only that, I will put forward a plan to cancel the new spending and the $100 million slush fund the Liberals have proposed. I will also get rid of the wasteful infrastructure bank that hasn't completed a single solitary project, even though it's paid out millions in bonuses and given hundreds of millions of loan guarantees to profitable companies.

"I'll defund the CBC and cap government spending, and we can make government affordable so that your life is affordable. I'm also going to reinstate the Bank of Canada's traditional mandate of protecting the value of our dollar by keeping inflation low, rather than printing money for politicians to spend and the wealthy to borrow. In other words, let's get back to common sense. Common sense means making more, costing less, with paycheques, and not debt," Poilievre said.

Interim Conservative leader Candice Bergen made an official rebuttal to the Liberals' budget on Thursday, calling it an "irresponsible budget. It is a typical, classic NDP spend-and-tax budget."

Bergen said that the Conservatives wanted to see controlled spending to help with inflation, tax breaks for Canadians to help with inflation, and substantial programs to address housing inflation crisis, specifically with housing stock.

She said that all three were not addressed.
