After contracting COVID-19, President Donald Trump will reportedly leave the White House to spend "a few days" at Walter Reed Military Medical Center "out of an abundance of caution."
"Out of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the president will be working from the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days," Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany said today in a statement.
According to an inside source, the president will travel shortly and walk across the south lawn to Marine One at 5:30 p.m. Trump will remain for "a few days," Fox News host Martha MacCallum reported.
A White House official stated that this decision was based “out of an abundance of caution" and "at the recommendation of his physician."
"He remains in good spirits, but will be working from there for the next few days," CBS News correspondent Catherine Herridge quoted the source.
Trump announced early Thursday morning that he and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for COVID-19, promising to quarantine themselves until fully recovered.
A memorandum written by Trump's physician Sean Conley reported that the couple are "both well at this time" and "plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence."
The doctor vowed to maintain a "vigilant watch" alongside his medical team, supported by "some of our country's greatest medical professionals and institutions."
"Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments," Conley concluded.
First Lady Melania Trump will reportedly be staying at the White House, reported Fox News. A top White House aide told NBC that power has not been transferred to Vice President Mike Pence, saying “The President is in charge.”
A senior administration official told Fox News’ Bret Baier that this new development should not be viewed through a “new prognosis” lens.
Trump has since released a statement recorded before his departure for the hospital. "I want to thank everybody for the tremendous support," the president stated on camera. "I think I'm doing very well, but we're going to make sure that things work out. The First Lady is doing very well. So thank you very much. I appreciate it. I will never forget it."
"He will fight through this with the same strength and conviction that he uses to fight for America each and every day. I ask you to join me in praying for his recovery. I have never been more proud of someone and what they have had to endure," Eric Trump tweeted, calling his father a "true warrior."
Ivanka Trump wrote, "I love you dad," adding that her father will "beat this."
This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
