On Thursday, in a Chicago federal courtroom singer R. Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his conviction last year on child sex crimes charges.
According to CNN, "US District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber said 19 years of the sentence would be served concurrent to his previous sentence in New York, and one year would be served consecutively."
Prosecutors said in their filing, "Robert Kelly is a serial sexual predator who, over the course of many years, specifically targeted young girls and went to great lengths to conceal his abuse of Jane and other minor victims. To this day, and even following the jury verdict against him, Kelly refuses to accept responsibility for his crimes."As The Post Millennial reported in September of last year, the singer was found guilty by a federal jury in Chicago on three counts of child pornography and three counts of child enticement.
In her closing remarks, Prosecutor Jeannice Appenteng said it was clear that "what R. Kelly wanted was to have sex with young girls."
55-year-old Kelly was charged with a total of thirteen charges total related to child pornography, enticement, and conspiracy to obstruct justice.
He was acquitted on a fourth pornography-related charge along with conspiracy to obstruct justice. The charges stemmed from accusations that he had bribed and intimidated the defendants in his 2008 trial.
Kelly was found not guilty on three counts of conspiring to receive child pornography and two charges of enticement.
CNN reports Kelly is already serving 30 years for a 2021 conviction on "racketeering and sex trafficking charges in a New York federal court."
During that trial nearly fifty witnesses testified about the singer's behavior going back to the 1990s.
