BREAKING: Rapper and actor DMX dead at age 50

DMX was the father of 15 children and served as a transitional deacon in the Christian church, aspiring to become ordained as a pastor.

Rapper Earl Simmons, known as DMX (Dark Man X) has died, according to a statement from his family.

"Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl's music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time," the statement reads.

DMX had been in hospital since last week after suffering a heart attack at his home in New York, according to his attorney Murray Richman.

DMX was the father of 15 children and served as a transitional deacon in the Christian church, aspiring to become ordained as a pastor.

Simmons was 50 years old.
