In the case of finding the whereabouts of 23-year-old Brian Laundrie, authorities have made a breakthrough in the last 24 hours.

It was this part nearby North Port, Florida that officials found remains near where Brian’s personal items were located. Clothing seemingly linked to him was found near human remains, in what’s described as an underwater scene.

According to NBC News, the remains of Laundrie were in a "skeletal" state upon their discovery in Florida's Carlton Reserve. Beyond clothing items a notebook and backpack were discovered at the scene.

"The notebook to my understanding has not been opened. You know, that will need to be processed," North Port Police spokesperson Josh Taylor told CNN.

According to local Miami reporter Brian Entin: two detectives briefly entered the Laundrie house on Thursday evening for "2 minutes or less." Some assume this was the moment authorities told Brian's parents of the discovery.

TV personality Dog the Bounty Hunter had devoted the past month to this search. But even he hung up the towel earlier today, when news of the discovery of human remains first broke.

"On October 21, 2021, a comparison of dental records confirmed that the human remains found at the T. Mabry Carlton, Jr. Memorial Reserve and Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park are those of Brian Laundrie," confirmed the FBI Denver office.

It was since September that the boyfriend of Gabby Petito was the subject of a federal manhunt following the disappearance and death of his female travel companion. It was a situation that stupefied even the families of the pair. The Petitos accused Laundrie of going into hiding following the death of their daughter.

Here's the moment last month that authorities announced the discovery of Gabby Petito's remains after an exhaustive search was conducted.

The FBI dedicated a considerable amount of resources into the investigation since last month, visiting the Laundrie’s estate on multiple occasions to aid in their search for Brian. The results of an autopsy were recently made public, and it concluded Gabby Petito died by strangulation.
