Republican Senator Tom Cotton has called for a special counsel investigation into Hunter Biden's controversial business dealings and taxes, The Hill reports.

"These investigations span multiple jurisdictions and if Joe Biden becomes president then all of those prosecutors are in line to be fired next month," Cotton told FOX News. "If there were ever circumstances that created a conflict of interest and called for a special counsel, I think those circumstances are present here."

"The Biden family has been trading on Joe Biden’s public office for fifty years," the firebrand senator continued. "Do we really think that that will change if Joe Biden becomes president, the highest office in the land?"

Cotton's comments come only a day after it was revealed that Hunter Biden's taxes have been under investigation by the US Attorney's office in Delaware since 2018. The investigation is related to the younger Biden's business dealings in China.

The revelation came from the Biden-Harris transition team, which released a statement from both Hunter Biden and the team itself. Hunter Biden said in his statement that "I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors."

The Biden-Harris said on the matter that "President-elect Biden is deeply proud of his son, who has fought through difficult challenges, including the vicious personal attacks of recent months, only to emerge stronger."

Hunter Biden's business dealings in general have been the subject of intense controversy since October when the New York Post revealed that Biden's laptop had been handed over to the FBI for investigation after it was left at a repair shop in Delaware.

With the investigation came a series of leaked emails from the laptop concerning Hunter Biden's business dealings in Ukraine and China, with one email in particular arousing controversy due to its referencing the "big guy" who Biden was supposedly holding money for. The story was widely suppressed by big tech giants such as Twitter and Facebook.

One of Biden's former business partners Tony Bobulinski said in an interview with Tucker Carlson that the "big guy" refers to his father, Joe Biden. The elder Biden had previously claimed to have nothing to do with his son's business dealings. Bobulinski further asserted his belief that the Biden family is "compromised" by China.
