Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed media today from North York Ontario, making an announcement concerning the country's return to school plan amid the ongoing health crisis.

Trudeau announced $2 billion in funding to assist the provinces with school reopenings. Half of that funding will be made available immediately, with another billion dollars to make its way come January.

The "Safe Return to Class Fund" will go towards keeping students and staff safe during the virus, aiding in the prevention of outbreaks.

"What we're announcing today is designed to support provinces in the best way possible," said Trudeau.

Provinces and schools will be able to use the funding for "what they need most," allowing resource flexibility.

$112 million will also go directly to schools in First Nations communities.

"The premiers and I discussed the measures we're taking to keep Canadians safe... That includes today's federal support for schools and progress on everything from [PPE] to help for the most vulnerable," said Trudeau.
