Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told media on Tuesday that he was looking forward to working with the Biden administration to "build back better."

"I'd like to say a few words about this week's inauguration in the United States. Tomorrow, Canadians and around the world will be watching the swearing in of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris," said Trudeau. "This moment will mark a new chapter in the incredible relationship between our two countries."

Trudeau also addressed reports surrounding the Biden-administration's reported plan to cancel the Keystone XL project via executive order. Documents from Biden's transition team state: "Roll back Trump enviro actions via EO (including rescind Keystone XL pipeline permit)," of the $8 billion project which has remained in limbo for years.

"Yesterday, I spoke with our ambassador Kirsten Hillman. We've had a clear and consistent position supporting this project for years. Our government is making sure that Canada's views are heard and considered by the incoming administration at the highest levels.

"And of course, I'm really looking forward to working closely with the new president and his team to create jobs and build back better."

High members of the Liberal Party have parroted the "build back better" motto made popular by the likes of Boris Johnson and President-elect Biden. Trudeau's New Year's Eve statement even included the phrase, saying: "The challenges we have faced this year have shown how important it is to build back better. As we recover from this crisis, we must take every opportunity to make our country stronger, more sustainable, and more just for everyone."
