Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada had confirmed more than 5 million doses originally scheduled to be delivered late in the summer will now be delivered in June.

The announcement came during a Tuesday morning press conference, where Trudeau said that Canada would now be receiving nearly ten million Pfizer doses in June, in addition to doses of Moderna and AstraZeneca.

"A lot of doses being delivered means a lot of people being able to get their shot," said Trudeau.

Trudeau warned that "in some places," COVID cases have held steady or decreased, especially in long term care homes where vaccinations have made a serious impact on outbreaks.

Trudeau said that COVID-19 hospitalizations and case numbers remain high, however, and that "variants of concern" were increasing quickly.

Trudeau cited British Columbia, where cases were once under control. The province has since had to unveil new restrictions as they face a third wave.

Easter and Passover celebrations 'won't look the same' this year

Trudeau warned Canadians once again this year to stay at home for Easter and Passover holidays.

"Again this year, we won't have the kind of celebrations we were all hoping for, because we just can't afford to let our guard down," said Trudeau. "I know I said the same thing before every major holiday... But this time, what's different is that even if the end of the pandemic is in sight, the variants mean the situation is even more serious," he added, saying that Canada was entering "the final stretch" of the crisis.

Last year, Trudeau was on the receiving end of backlash after he travelled to his cottage with his family, something Chief Medical Officer Theresa Tam advised directly against in at tweet telling "urban dwellers" to "resist the urge" to go to the cottage.
