As Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, President Trump called for them to remain peaceful. Brawls broke out at the Capitol, both inside and outside.
After Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, making their way through police lines to the floor of the House and into the Senate chamber, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser called for troops to control the area.
It was reported that Bowser had requested troops. Additionally it was reported that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi asked for the National Guard to be deployed to the Capitol.
National Guard troops from Virginia were reportedly deployed. This as the Capitol was in lockdown.
Bowser has installed a curfew on the city, saying that there would be a "...citywide curfew for the District of Columbia from 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, until 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 7."
The protest on Wednesday came as Congress had convened to certify the Electoral College votes in favor of President-elect Joe Biden. A rally for President Trump today in Washington, DC, garnered supporters, many of whom were intent on finding a way to overturn the election results or to have an investigation into allegations of voter fraud and election irregularities in key battleground states.
Vie President Pence was considered the last line of defense against the Congressional certification that would put Biden in the White House, but Pence issues a statement that he did not have that authority. He ended his statement "So Help Me God."
