President Trump held a conference in the White House Rose Garden on Saturday, where he announced and introduced Judge Amy Coney Barrett as the nominee for the United States Supreme Court.
This nomination comes following the passing of Supreme Court Judge and feminist icon, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Last Tuesday, Trump announced he would be making the announcement of his selection on Saturday.
In line with speculation from both sides of the political aisle, it is now official that Judge Amy Coney Barrett will be the nominee and presumed next Supreme Court Judge.
A mother of seven, Barrett serves as the Judge on the 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals, which covers Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. She is a Notre Dame Law Graduate and eventually became a professor at the same institution. She also clerked for Ginsberg's close friend, late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
Previously, critics have attacked Barrett over her devout faith. Dianne Feinstein of California suggested to her that the "dogma lives loudly within you." Others who support the choice say she is towering intellectual and a solid choice to replace RBG. She is also renowned for being an originalist.
Barrett at the age of 47 would be the youngest Judge on the current court.
