President Trump has officially pardoned Lieutenant General Michael Flynn, his former National Security Advisor who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI before revoking his guilty plea.
Flynn was sworn in as the National Security Advisor at the beginning of President Trump's term in 2017. After Flynn reportedly lied to Vice President Mike Pence about his conversation with Russian ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak, he resigned from his position in the Trump administration.
Later in 2017, Flynn struck a deal with Special Counsel Robert Mueller to plead guilty to “willfully and knowingly” making false statements to the FBI in relation to the Russiagate controversy. He later revoked his plea.
The Department of Justice announced their intention to drop all charges against Flynn in May of this year, but the matter was placed on hold by federal Judge Emmet G. Sullivan
Flynn is considered a hero by Trump supporters and is widely regarded as a victim of what they describe as a Russian collusion hoax perpetrated by the Democratic Party.
