Trump supporters have also stormed both Georgia and Kansas state Capitol buildings on Wednesday while protesters clash with federal police in Washington, D.C.
Conservatives have entered the Kansas Statehouse, KSNT News reported Wednesday afternoon. Eyewitness reports at 1:40 p.m. confirmed there are protesters inside the first floor of Topeka's capitol rotunda where the legislature is not in session until next week.
Participants are gathered in a circle and remain peaceful at this time. Police have arrived at the scene to monitor the developing situation.
Georgia Capitol Police escorted Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and his senior staff as they evacuated from the state Capitol to a secure location. A smaller "Make America Great Again" group attempted to breach to Raffensperger's office to deliver their "grievances" to him, Georgia Public Broadcasting reporter Stephen Fowler tweeted.
The building is now under lockdown, causing officials to cancel an afternoon press conference. "We heard reports of threats and left immediately," spokeswoman Jordon Fuchs told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The development followed another "Stop the Steal" rally that contrasted the mayhem that erupted in Washington when thousands of right-wingers stormed the US Capitol to force Congress to suspend the official certification of President-elect Joe Biden's election victory over President Donald Trump.
While outraged about the outcome of the races, the crowd in Georgia was peaceful. Motorists sent supportive honks as state troopers watched from the Capitol grounds.
