Imagine being a kid playing at the park only to have law enforcement barge in and shove you off your scooter. That's what a viral video captured today happening at Gravenhurst skate park.
It was only two days ago that Ontario Premier Doug Ford retracted new restrictions that allowed police to harass members of the public as to why they were outdoors.
Sgt. Jason Folz told Country 102 that they "are investigating and will be speaking with of course the officers involved, as well as direct witnesses to the case." The Ontario Provincial Police have tweeted their acknowledgement and asking for witnesses to help the investigation into the matter.
The most complete video footage we have right now is via the Muskoka Post. They have an interview with the child afterward.
The officer pushes the boy. "What the f*ck are you doing?" someone shouts. "He's twelve years old!" The officer shouts something about people failing to identify. In response the group of youngsters rebut they were trying to leave. It's hard to make out but someone complains about this being a waste of tax dollars.
"Can you tell me what happened?" asked the interviewer. "The police came by to tell us to put our masks on, and most of us did it. But I recorded a video saying like 'we have a right to breathe and stuff.' And he came asking for my identification. And I told him I was 12 and he came over and took my scooter because I was trying to leave. And I didn't let go and he threw me to the ground."
