Update: Vimeo restored the film.
Original story follows:
The new documentary, Affirmation Generation, that seeks to expose the dangers of the one-size-fits-all transgender medical experiment and features the stories of detransitioners harmed by so-called gender-affirming care, has been banned from the platform Vimeo.
As soon as the film was released, there was pressure from trans activists for it to be taken down, and last night filmmaker Vera Lindner announced that the activists had been successful. Lindner provided a back-up Dropbox link to be used until an alternate platform can be found.
LGB activist & lifelong Liberal Democrat Joey Brite, the executive producer, told The Post Millennial that the goal of the documentary was “to expose the dangers of the experimental drugs and surgeries being promoted and adopted by medical professionals and health clinicians in every aspect of American society.”
She hoped it would “leave the viewer with new insights into psychological and medical practices that most Americans don't even know are going on.”
Dr. Julia Mason, who is featured in the film, first tweeted to say that activists were attempting to get it removed just hours after it was released. Mason is a pediatrician who has been campaigning for years to get the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to undertake a systematic review of the evidence for child sex changes such as has been done in Sweden, Finland, England and Florida.
Psychotherapist Tania Marshall took to Twitter to question the motives of those who wish to censor such a thoroughly researched and in-depth look at this complex issue.
“Always ask yourself “Why do people ‘need’ to ban & censor information”? Control. Then ask, “What information are they attempting to withhold and/or keep secret from society”? Go watch Affirmation Generation to find out why they want this documentary banned,” Marshall tweeted.
Vimeo was reached for comment.
This article has been edited to correct Joey Brite's title from associate producer to executive producer.
