Whole Foods employees will now be able to wear poppies on their uniforms. This after politicians of all stripes, veterans, and Canadians expressed outrage Friday morning over news that the Amazon-owned grocer would forbid them.
This morning, Justin Trudeau retweeted Canada's Minister of Veterans Affairs Lawrence MacAulay, calling the ban "absolutely unacceptable." Trudeau later called the decision a "silly mistake," expressing optimism that the grocer would reverse their decision.
Hours later, MacAulay announced that Whole Foods employees would now be able to wear their poppies at work.
"Just spoke to the Chief Operating Officer of Whole Foods. Employees will now be able to wear their poppies at work," he tweeted.
"The poppy represents those who've served, fought, and died for Canada, and it's deeply personal to everyone here. Glad to hear they're changing course," he concluded.
Upon Whole Foods' original decision, they had said that they honour "the men and women who have and continue to bravely serve this country," but "with the exception of those items required by law, our dress code policy prohibits any additions to our standard uniform."
