YouTube announced on Thursday that they will be removing all videos which promote claims of election fraud.
"As we shared previously, we do not allow content that misleads people by alleging that widespread fraud or errors changed the outcome of the 2020 presidential election," YouTube wrote in an email. "This policy applies to videos uploaded on or after December 9."
YouTube noted that content with "sufficient ESDA context" were allowed to remain on the platform subjected to strict rules. They noted that they did not strike the platforms of YouTubers who upload such videos.
Now, however, the policy is changing.
"Now that the election results have been certified, and due to the extraordinary events that transpired [on Wednesday], videos uploaded on or after today (January 7) that violate this policy will both be removed and a strike will be applied to the channel."
The announcement comes shortly after Facebook and Instagram said they would be extending Trump's lockout from the platforms, which he was handed following the storming of the US Capitol Building by a mob of his supporters. Trump was also temporarily locked out of his Twitter account during the protests.
