In the wake of her Friday announcement confirming her run for Governor of California, Caitlyn Jenner is facing backlash in the LGBTQ community.
Jenner announced that she filed the initial paperwork to run for Governor in a statement on Twitter Friday saying "this isn't the California we know. This is Gavin Newsom's California, where he orders us to stay home but goes out to dinner with his lobbyist friends."
"California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality. But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision," the statement reads.

In the wake of her announcement, many LGBTQ activists voiced their distaste on twitter, with hashtags Hell No and Say No To Jenner trending.
George Takei equated Transgender people voting to Jenner to Black people voting for Candace Owens, also pointing out that the disabled community didn't vote for Madison Cawthorn.
Black people wouldn’t vote for Candace Owen for office. The disabled community wouldn’t vote for Madison Cawthorn.

I’m LGBTQ but I won’t be voting for Caitlyn Jenner. Just so we’re clear.
To Fox News and the right.

Caitlyn Jenner is to trans Americans what Candace Owens is to black Americans.
Equality California said that they couldn't wait to vote for a Trans governor, but that governor wouldn't be Jenner
Make no mistake: we can’t wait to elect a #trans governor of California.

But @Caitlyn_Jenner spent years telling the #LGBTQ+ community to trust Donald Trump. We saw how that turned out. Now she wants us to trust her?
Hard pass. @StopRepRecall pic.twitter.com/0zMw2HURNG
Appropriate response: Caitlyn Jenner is a deeply unqualified hack who doesn't care about anyone but herself. Her views are terrible. She is a horrible candidate.

Inappropriate response: [Misgendering Caitlyn Jenner because you think transphobia is okay here. It's not.]
Many called Jenner's run a vanity campaign, saying she cared more about her media popularity than actually governing a state.
Perfectly said. There have been more than a few vanity campaigns recently, where candidates care more about their (media) popularity than governance. I hope the public knows governance isn’t about “who you want to have a beer with.” (But studies have proven otherwise ?)

Caitlyn Jenner running for Governor of California ?. Why do these reality stars think they're fucking qualified to govern? I'm so sick of this shit!

Others, assuming Jenner would be running as a Republican, brought the party she would be running for into question, although she hasn't formally announced whether she would be running as a Republican or Independent.
caitlyn jenner running for office with the party that routinely harms and attempts to erase lgbtq people is definitely something

Caitlyn Jenner - the trans candidate for the party that despises trans people. https://t.co/a2y73tmBT9

Wait. Caitlyn Jenner is running for the same party who wants to ban trans from serving in the military, and puts up signs like this... What am I missing? #SayNoToJenner pic.twitter.com/THMqMKwB2N

Caitlyn Jenner the Republican and #TransRightsAreHumanRights don't go together they don't care for the LGTBQ Community...I don't understand they block all bills related to the LGTBQ Community...how is CJ going to explain that?
— TransLivesMatter ?Activist "Ada J"® (@Activist_AdaJ) April 23, 2021
With all due respect, @Caitlyn_Jenner, you are running as a Republican?! Republicans deny your existence and are trying to erase trans youth. HELL NO. https://t.co/tUiBHTqZ0P
