California says to put your mask on between bites—and to minimize taking off your mask while dining

California governor Gavin Newsom's office issued a directive via masking that has everyone who reads it scratching their heads in confusion. It says both to not take off your mask, and to keep taking off your mask and putting it back on.

The graphic mentions that people are expected to "wear the mask in between bites," and shows a pictorial of exactly that, but it also says to minimize the amount of times you put your mask on and take it off.

In the first image, the diner is shown with mask on. Then they lower the mask to take a bite of their food. In the third and final image, they have the mask back on again.

Immediately after, the message tells the public to "minimize the number of times you take your mask off."

The state of California has started to allow restaurants to open in some counties with limited capacity, and have been encouraging people to dine "al fresco" whenever possible.

Debate still rages in California and all over the world about when it is and it's appropriate to wear a mask and take one's mask off.
