Canada Goose, the apparel company most famous for their winter parkas, has announced that it will begin manufacturing personal protective equipment for front line healthcare workers across the country, according to Newswire.

"These unprecedented times call for decisive, collective action and now is the time for Canada to invest in Made-in-Canada solutions," said Dani Reiss, President & CEO of Canada Goose.

Over the next couple of weeks, the company plans to bring back at least 900 employees to operate all eight of its facilities in order to bring their production back to full capacity to help with the coronavirus pandemic.

Canada Goose has already signed contracts that will see them producing at least 60,000 gowns a week with a long term goal of delivering as many as 1.5 million, to be sold at cost. If the company discovers additional profits along the way, they plan to donate it to relief funds set up for the pandemic.

In addition to that, Canada Goose will also produce 14,000 gowns and scrubs at their facilities in Toronto and Winnipeg, to be donated to hospitals across the nation, free of charge.

"With one of the largest Canadian apparel manufacturing infrastructures in the country, we are uniquely positioned to re-tool our facilities and refocus our teams to produce a variety of personal protective equipment – and we are prepared to leverage all of our resources to do what's right for our country." said Reiss.

Canada Goose said the company will continue to work alongside health authorities to provide as much gear as is needed at this time.
