Canada has now been added to the UK's green travel list in latest changes to travel rules

As of Monday, Canada, along with Denmark, Finland and Switzerland, are the newest countries to have been brought back to the UK's green travel list during the pandemic.

This means in practical terms that people are not legally required to quarantine anymore when returning from these nations, whatever their vaccination status may be. They do, however, still have to take a COVID test before returning home, and another one-two days after arriving.

According to Sky News, under current UK rules, people who are fully vaccinated who have received their doses of the vaccine within the UK, US or the EU are allowed to travel to and return from amber list nations without quarantining when they return.

Other countries recently added to the UK green list include Lichtenstein, the Azores and Lithuania. However, Thailand and Montenegro have been added to the red list, which means that UK travelers returning from these destinations will have to isolate for 11 days in a "quarantine hotel" at their own expense. This "quarantine hotel" measure has also been a restriction in place in Canada.

Not all people are happy with the current state of travel restrictions, however. A spokesperson for Airlines UK, an organization representing the country's airlines, feels that the rules are still way too draconian.

"Too many families are having to look over their shoulders for rule changes and pay through the nose for tests, with no sign from government that this will change."

"As has already happened across Europe, it's time for a more proportionate system where tests are dropped for the fully-vaccinated and from destinations where COVID risks are low, with tougher measures targeted at a small number of high risk countries."
