UPDATE: Armed man arrested at Rideau Hall identified as Corey Hurren of Manitoba

UPDATE: CBC has tweeted that the man is Corey Hurren, a resident of rural Manitoba.

"CBC News has confirmed the man arrested by the RCMP today is Corey Hurren. A person who answered the phone at the Hurren household in rural Manitoba this evening confirmed he was arrested but said she didn't want to speak further about today's events."

The man arrested after an incident involving firearms at Rideau Hall wanted to speak to Prime Minister Trudeau according to sources in a new report from Global. RCMP confirmed on Thursday that he was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces.

It's now being reported that he belonged to the reservist group, the Canadian Rangers. Sources also told Global that he had recently become unemployed and had grievances about emergency coronavirus measures.

He had multiple guns, including one rifle and two shotguns, and he told the police that it wasn't his intention to harm anyone.

The vehicle the man was driving had Manitoba license plates.

The RCMP released a statement Thursday evening that read: "At 6:30 this morning, a lone male breached the main pedestrian entrance of 1 Sussex Drive (Thomas Gate) with his vehicle which was disabled on impact. The armed suspect then proceeded on foot on the grounds of Rideau Hall to the greenhouse, an onsite structure with limited public access, where he was rapidly contained by RCMP members who were on patrol in the area."
