A Canadian man's body was found in a Mexican vacation rental, alongside his five-year-old son who was lying next to his father's decomposing body.

The man, identified as 44-year-old John Poulson, was found in his vacation rental north of Puerto Vallarta by his neighbour who was contacted by Poulson's ex-wife after she couldn't get in contact with him from Canada. Poulson had not been seen since August 7.

Mexico News Daily reports that the neighbour walked into Poulson's home where he found the air conditioner on, the lights off, and Poulson's body in his bedroom with his son next to him.

Officials say that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition. No official cause of death has been announced. The boy is in the care of the neighbour until the mother gets to Mexico.
