Following a New York Times article which criticized Looney Toons character Pepé Le Pew for perpetuating rape culture and subsequent removal of the character from the upcoming Space Jam sequel, some keyboard social justice warriors set their sights on Miss Piggy.
The Muppet was targeted, and began to trend on social media, after being called out for her abuse of on-again-off-again beau Kermit D. Frog, as well as karate-chopping other Muppet characters.
Since the creation of the Muppets, the amorous swine has assaulted the good natured amphibian to get his attention, or anytime she disagreed with his opinion.
Earlier this month, Disney slapped a disclaimer on the five seasons of the original Muppet Show, when the show was released on Disney Plus. The show was only available to adults.
"This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now," reads the message embedded before users get to watch the shows.
Some Twitter pundits believed that like Le Pew, Piggy should be held to the same standard. Disney has not weighed in on the faux controversy.
