In this uncertain time, we need a hero. Someone who can lift our spirits and remind of us what a cool species we are. Well folks, look no further than Carl Carmoni, mini-putt champion.
"Every morning after my coffee, it's 30 minutes to an hour of putting in the basement," said Carmoni. "At least five times a week! ”
Now semi-retired, the 67-year-old Carmoni is best known for his mastery of mini-putt, as well as his addiction to Pepsi. Carmoni was part of a weekly show on Quebec cable sports network Reseau des sports, in the early 1990's. It was the first professional mini-golf tournament to be broadcast in Quebec. The show was called L'Heure du Mini-Putt (Mini-Putt Hour). It ran from 1989 until 1998.
Carmoni has since reprised the tournament, which is set to kick off May 16, "The season should start on May 16 in Terrebonne, with a pro-am formula in the morning and the singles tournament in the afternoon," said Carmoni.
The tournament may be postponed however due to the pandemic. In the meantime, here is some vintage Carmoni on the green.
