The CBC has announced that it will temporarily gut most of its local TV newscasts so that they may consolidate their resources to better focus their coverage on the coronavirus pandemic according to CP24.
Changes to the public broadcaster were made effective today. All local TV newscasts across the country will not air. There is one exception, CBC North, where TV news programming in Inuktitut will remain broadcasting in the Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut and Northern Quebec.
The usual local, suppertime news shows and nationwide late-night news casts will be replaced with a "core live breaking-news service" according to a CBC statement. However people can still get their local coverage via CBC Radio and their social media.
The statement also announces the temporary suspension of "Power & Politics" program to allow their Ottawa production team to be redeployed to CBC News Network.
