CBSA employee at Toronto airport tests positive for coronavirus

An employee of the Canada Border Services Agency working at the Toronto Pearson International Airport has tested positive for coronavirus. The agency confirmed the case on Sunday night.

In an email, Ashley Lemire, a spokesperson for the CBSA told Global News: “We can confirm that an employee at the Toronto Pearson International Airport has tested positive for the 2019 novel coronavirus.”

She added that the employee has followed advice from public health officials and is currently in isolation at their home.

The CBSA is still unsure of the time and place that the employee contracted the novel virus. They have been contacting other employees who may have been in contact with the person.

“While the location and time of infection are still unknown at this time, we are proactively notifying all employees who may have had contact with this individual, while respecting the privacy of the employee,” said Lemire.

The agency is cleaning the area where the employee worked and asking those who worked close by to self-monitor.

“These employees may also be instructed by public health to self isolate and remain at home for the recommended period,” added Lemire in her email.

There are now at least 145 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ontario—five of them have been resolved.

The total number of confirmed cases in Canada has reached 324 as of March 16, 9 a.m. EST.
