The 20-year-old woman known as “chair girl” has been sentenced to two years of probation along with a $2,000 fine and 150 community service hours.

Marcella Zoia threw a chair onto a busy Toronto highway on Feb 9, 2019 and her case has seen multiple delays. First, Ontario Court Justice Mara Greene was under the weather and unable to make a decision.

After that the case was pushed to March 30 but delayed again when the coronavirus pandemic hit and courts were shuttered.

The sentencing started at 2 p.m. and took place over teleconference.

In a video of the original incident, Zoia can be seen throwing a chair off of a balcony while on the 45th floor of a condo building above Lake Shore Boulevard and Gardiner Expressway. There were no injuries reported after the incident occurred. Footage of the incident was reviewed in a hearing on Feb. 7. In the video it is not clear where the chair landed.

Zoia was then asked to attend counselling for her alcohol consumption, which would consist of 240 community service hours.

Zoia pleaded guilty on Nov. 15, 2019 to mischief endangering life following the incident which was widely reported online.

Earlier in the year, Zoia said she was “very sorry for her actions” while in court.

“I am very sorry for my actions… I take this as a lesson,” she added during her prepared statement.
