Chaos erupted at a Little League baseball tournament on Sunday in Wilson, North Carolina when three gunshots were fired from nearby by an unknown assailant.

In a harrowing video, 7 and 8-year-old players are seen cowering on the ground and attempting  to get to safety as loud gunshots rang out across Gillette Athletic Complex. In the clip, one can hear parents and coaches yelling "Get down!," and even see one coach position his body flat over that of a young player who had dropped to the field to shield him from any potential bullets. Thankfully, no one was shot, but one bullet landed just feet away from a child on the field.

According to a press release from the Wilson Police Department, there is an ongoing investigation into the weekend's events, and there is "no evidence that this was an active shooter incident," and "no evidence that anyone at the location was intentionally targeted by gunfire." However, some of the parents see things differently.

"The bullets hit the ground next to my son, and the other players, his teammates. That person was shooting at those kids," said one parent to WRAL News.

One mother, Caitlin Koszczepki, posted a traumatic video she captured from the event, showing parents ducking below bleachers while she cried out "There's a live shooter here! There's a live shooter here!"

"No child or parent should ever experience anything like this," stated the South Durham Little League, whose 8U Orange All Star team was one of the teams playing at the time of the shooting.

The state championship canceled the rest of that day's games with the rest to take place later on, but South Durham and several other teams have already withdrawn from the remainder of the competition in general. "The events were too traumatic for us to even consider having the teams return to Wilson to play," South Durham Little League said.

The shooter, who shot out the windows of a minivan in the parking lot at the field, is still at large.
