A child gave seven other children, aged 1 to 4 years old, sleeping pills in a Hopewell, Virginia home on Wednesday evening. All seven children were rushed to the hospital.

Two of the youngest children involved were later transported to another hospital, and are reportedly in serious condition.

According to NBC News, "the adult who was supervising the children left to go to a store and called 911 upon returning and finding the children. It was not immediately clear the adult’s relationship to the children or if they faced any charges."

Lieutenant Cheyenne Casale, a spokesperson for the Hopewell Police Department, told the press that one of the children had prescription medicine, and somehow "got into it" and "shared" it with the other children around him.

"I don’t know the details of their treatment but some are being transported to other hospitals for further treatment," continued Casale.

She said that law enforcement intends to "find out who are we going to hold accountable and get these kids in a safe environment, that’s our number one goal."

Child Protective services was also called by police at the time.
