The Chinese government has gone to great lengths to prevent the west from exposing human rights abuses being committed in the province of Xinjiang. Numerous countries have placed sanctions on China in an effort to call attention to the Chinese Communist Party's treatment of Uyghur Muslims.

The CCP have retaliated by sanctioning four organizations, and nine individuals in the UK. According to the Algemeiner, "Targeted individuals and their immediate family members are prohibited from entering Chinese territory," and that, "Chinese citizens and institutions will be prohibited from doing business with them."

It is estimated that "at least a million Muslims have been detained in camps in Xinjiang", and many believe China is employing measures such as "torture, forced labour and sterilizations".

A number of the individuals named by the Chinese government have spoken out on social media, stating that they will not be intimidated.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson took to Twitter to show his support for those who had been sanctioned.

The Chinese government seems adamant in its pursuit to curtail any criticism of its actions, especially in Xinjiang, as more and more people across the world share details of the reality, and stand up against human rights abuses.
