China has warned that there will be "drastic measures" if Taiwan decides to declare independence, according to Global News.

This stern warning was given by a Chinese official on Wednesday. He went on to say that international provocations would only get worse.

The US has since shifted their international strategy to protecting Taiwan. On top of this, Australia has also somewhat guaranteed Taiwan's existence, meaning any war between China and Taiwan could plunge the world into chaos.

China has also put more effort into claiming Taiwan, often flying their aircraft into the island's airspace, and making increasingly aggressive statements.

A spokesperson for Beijing's Taiwan Affairs Office also confirmed these comments in a media briefing, saying that China would work for a peaceful resolution, however, they would not hesitate to take military action.

This was especially so if Taiwan declares independence.

"If separatist forces in Taiwan seeking independence provoke, exert force or even break through any red line, we will have to take drastic measures," the Chinese official said.
