Current Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland, will replace Bill Morneau as Canada’s finance minister.
Freeland will continue to serve as deputy prime minister.
Freeland led Canada in its NAFTA negotiations with the United States throughout last year and has been one of the more popular cabinet ministers in the Liberal caucus.
This comes after Bill Morneau announced he would resign his position as finance minister on Monday night after a long couple of months of controversy surrounding the WE Charity scandal.
The selection will make Freeland the country’s first female finance minister.
