Josh Campbell tweeted a utopian picture of a Portland park this morning. In his post text he says "Portland is not under siege and buildings are not burning to the ground," gaslighting a whole nation with a whimsical statement about a breakfast burrito.
His statement comes after months on months of unrest in the streets of Portland. Twitter user @dailydigger19 posted a large set of videos detailing just how bad the situation is on the ground in the northwestern United States city.
An estimate of over 30 people have died during the "mostly peaceful" protests following the death of George Floyd. Protests quickly go from marches to riots that see looting, arson, and massive damage to public property, including black-owned businesses.
This isn't the first time CNN has totally denied reality.
This tweet by CNN contributor Chris Cilizza caused many to do a double-take. It states that Trump is labeling the unrest in American cities as "riots" out of desperation, but the image shows a raging blaze.
It's not hard to see the difference in reporting on recent events, depending on who's telling the story. The same event is often called a riot by some, and a peaceful protest by others.
Let's not get caught up in rhetoric or ideology. Let's simply let the facts speak for themselves, starting with this very straightforward and easy to understand definition of the word "riot."
Last night Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler, who is also guilty of gaslighting both his city and America, was the subject of attacks against his apartment building.
