A Colorado woman, 50-year-old Kimberli Jones, has been arrested and charged after trying to kidnap a child in an Alamosa Walmart on Thursday after she snatched the youngster from a shopping cart and tried to exit the store.
According to a statement from Alamosa Police Department, "Due to the quick actions of citizens within the store at the time of the incident, they were able to restrain the suspect until law enforcement arrived and reunited the young child back safely to parents."
According to WECT, Jones, who is from Blana, Colorado, has been charged with child abuse, felony menacing, and kidnapping, all three of which are felonies, as well as one misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge.
The kidnapping was stopped while it was in progress and the police department said they "would like to thank the brave citizens, Wal-Mart staff, and community for the quick response and for being alert."
The child was reunited with their parents and authorities have not commented on whether Jones previously knew the family.
Jones is now at the Alamosa County Detention Center and awaits arraignment.
