A Canadian senator’s account was hijacked Sunday night and used to share her personal information.
Conservative Senator Linda Frum’s Twitter account was hacked by a group calling themselves “MF SPANK GANG”.
Whoever hacked the senator’s account accused her of being a “corrupt politician” and shared a photo of her driver’s license, disclosing her personal information such as her place of residence, birth date and phone number.
The individual in control of her account then took to tweeting racial slurs from the Senator’s account.
This isn’t the first case of a privacy breach among public officials.
Another Conservative Senator, Don Plett, was hacked in October of 2018. The hackers used his Twitter account to talk about Nicki Minaj and Cardi B and changed his profile photo.
Linda Frum has yet to publicly comment on the Twitter breach.
Privacy breaches of this kind can be damaging for a politician’s reputation and can have devastating consequences especially if sensitive information is leaked.
