Conservative health critic Michelle Rempel Garner and Conservative public services critic Pierre Paul-Hus released a statement on Wednesday following Trudeau's 10-hour quarantine at a Ottawa hotel following G7 meetings in the UK.
"While all other Canadians have to stay in one of four quarantine hotels that have seen COVID-19 outbreaks, sexual assault allegations, and multiple security issues, Justin Trudeau has had a special hotel set up for his quarantine following his trip abroad," Garner said via statement Wednesday.
"The Prime Minister only had to spend 10 hours in the hotel as he got his COVID-19 test back overnight, which seems to be a new record."
For months, all international flights into Canada have be diverted to either Montreal, Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver. International travellers have been made to stay in designated quarantine hotels until they receive a negative test, with stays in the facilities costing thousands, sometimes for only a few hours stay.
Trudeau stayed in a specifically made Ottawa hotel, where he stayed with the media and diplomats that accompanied his Europe trip.
"Once again, there is one set of rules for the Liberal elite and another for average Canadians. While the Prime Minister gets a taxpayer-funded stay at his own hotel, Canadians returning to Canada are forced to stay in quarantine hotels that the Testing and Screening Expert Advisory Panel has said are unscientific and must be scrapped," the statement continues.
"Canada's Conservatives continue to call on Justin Trudeau to immediately scrap his unscientific and unsafe quarantine hotel program. The Liberals must immediately put forward benchmarks for safely lifting COVID-19 restrictions within areas of federal jurisdiction that will allow all Canadians to get back to normal, not just elites," the statement concludes.
