The COVID-19 contact tracing app by Health Canada has now launched following an Ontario-wide test run that was delayed earlier this month, reports City News.

The app works by using Bluetooth from your phone and alerts you if you’ve come within close proximity to a person that has coronavirus.

It can be downloaded as of Friday and after users select their province they can begin.

In order for the app to notify you when you have made contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you will have to be under two metres away from that person for 15 minutes or more.

People who test positive for the virus can type in a code which notifies anyone they’ve been in contact with in the previous 14 days, assuming they too have downloaded the app.

Users do not have to enter personal information and your identity is kept private if you do test positive for the virus.
