North Okanagan resident, Curtis Sagmoen has reportedly assaulted sex workers in the past, though he will not be doing jail time for his most recent act of driving into an escort with his quad after calling her to his home in 2017.

Sagmoen was found guilty by Justice Gordon Weatherill of the BC Supreme Court for assault causing bodily harm after a two-day trial that took place in February, according to Info News.

He committed the crime on Aug. 10, 2017, only weeks before he pointed a gun at a different escort after ambushing her.

Justice Weatherill sentenced Sagmoen on Friday, June 19, to five months behind bars but Sagmoen will not have to serve the time because he is owed credit for previously spending more than two years in prison.

Sagmoen was found guilty by Justice Weatherill of assault causing bodily harm after a two-day trial that took place in February.

Sagmoen committed the crime on Aug. 10, 2017, only weeks before he pointed a gun at a different escort after ambushing her.

The incident was also months before police discovered 18-year-old Traci Genereaux’s remains at the property. No charges have been made in connection with the body.

A joint submission from defence lawyer Lisa Helps and Crown prosecutor Simone McCallum requested a four to five month sentence along with 36 months probation for Sagmoen so he could “foster new habits.”

An incident was brought up in the trial that involved Sagmoen calling an escort to a Salmon River Road property owned by his parents where he was staying in a trailer. When the woman decided she wanted to leave, she started walking back down a dirt road in the direction of her car. Samoen then drove his quad into her from behind at a fast speed.

The woman said she thought he “tried to kill” her. Sagmoen then pleaded not guilty and claimed that it was an accident.

Sagmoen has received several other charges and convictions for incidents at his property during 2017.

He pleaded guilty for an incident in December, 2018, involving a charge of mischief causing damage to property. He received an absolute discharge.

He received another assault charge after a May 2017 incident but it was stayed in March 2019 by crown prosecutors.

Samoen was convicted of three charges in December, 2019, after pointing a gun at another sex worker. He received just under two years in prison. However, he was released on probation because he had already served over two years.
