A protest broke out in DC on Monday night after the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin and quickly became confrontational, reports WJLA.

The protest began in Columbia Heights and eventually ended up in neighbourhoods such as Adam Morgan after traveling down 14th Street.

Once there, protestors aggressively approached people who were dining at restaurants in the area on outdoor patios.

"What I saw in those videos was highly inappropriate," said D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser in a press conference on Wednesday. She said that she "encourage[s] any diner or restaurant to call the police immediately" if they are surrounded by such mobs.

"It was likely against the law if they were on private property," Bowser said. "But more importantly, I don’t think it had anything to do with demands for social justice."

In videos of the incident, protestors are heard chanting "white silence is violence" and appear to be demanding that restaurant-goers raise their fists as a sign of solidarity.

One woman who was heckled by the crowd was identified as Lauren B. Victor.

"I felt I was under attack," said Victor who thought it was wrong to pressure people into showing support.

Victor said she is a big supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement, adding that she marched with them "for weeks and weeks and weeks."

One man that the group approached reportedly attempted to tell them that he was involved in a non-profit that addresses mental health for underserved populations including the black community, but they would not listen to what he had to say.

The shooting of Jacob Blake is being investigated and has sparked a number of new protests and riots throughout the United States.
