Conservative radio host Dan Bongino has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, he revealed on his show Friday.
“Just a little bit of bad news on a personal note,” Bongino told his Rumble viewers and 2.5 million Twitter followers. “We did get a diagnosis yesterday from my doctor... Unfortunately, it is cancer. It’s lymphoma, the Hodgkin's type. But it is treatable.”
Bongino then stated, “I do have cancer, and that is hard for me to say," rallying, “but we’ll be OK, and I am optimistic. That’s not some act I’m putting on for the show.”
He moved on to cite a strong support system consisting of his family, friends, and the “best audience in the business.”
"Thank you. You all are really amazing. Words don’t do the sense of gratitude I feel, any justice," Bongino later tweeted.
In late September, the former Secret Service agent announced that a “very scary” tumor was discovered in his neck. Bongino immediately received a strong outpour of prayers from colleagues on social media.
“This was done beautifully, heart-breakingly and with class,” journalist Megyn Kelly tweeted. “Praying for you Dan.”
“Dan, you hang in there — your friends are pulling for you all the way!” Fox News contributor Andy McCarthy posted.
“Good luck with treatment Dan,” conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt told Bongino. “Lots of broadcast colleagues have gone through this and recovered rapidly to encourage others. You'll be in their number soon. Payers for you and your family.”
“It’s a tumor, but there’s a strong likelihood that it is not cancerous,” Bongino stated on the online video-sharing platform Rumble which he recently acquired an equity stake in to buck YouTube censorship. The anti-Big Tech maverick also suspected at first that the growth was a lipoma. “We don’t know what it is. It’s in a very weird spot in my neck near my carotid artery, near vocal cords and things, and it is big. It's 7 centimeters...It’s scary.”
Fighting back tears, Bongino recounted how he "noticed when I came out of the MRI machine that the look on the doctor’s face changed a little bit as he told me in the room inside that it is not a lipoma."
Then Bongino thanked his wife, his fans, and his medical team before adopting an optimistic tone, urging that life and his show go on “no matter what happens.”
“We have two lives,” Bongino quoted American novelist Bernard Malamud. “The life we learn with and the life we live after that, and the genuine path to happiness is through suffering.”
The tumor was successfully removed earlier this month. However, Bongino expressed his fears in a public "good news, bad news" silverlining update on his health.
"Thank you all for your kind words & well wishes," Bongino tweeted at the time. "I’m out of surgery & I feel good. They removed the entire tumor from my neck. The bad news is, it looks like lymphoma."
Continuing, he wrote, "The good news is, there are treatments options. Either way, it’ll be okay. Thank you all for your support."
