White House social media director Dan Scavino took to Facebook on Thursday to tell President Donald Trump's administration officials to be proud of their accomplishments over the past four years.
"I encourage all Trump Administration Officials to hold your heads up high, and be proud of what you have accomplished together, over the past four years, for the American People," Scavino wrote.
Scavino shared a quote from an unnamed Senator who wanted to express their gratitude for the administration's officials.
"I appreciate your service over four long, tough years. Hold your head high for what you accomplished during a very consequential time," the Senator said, according to Scavino, FOX News reports.
Scavino's comments come as a number of Trump administration officials have resigned in the wake of the Capitol Hill riots on Jan. 6. The riot at the Capitol turned deadly, with one protester, Ashli Babbitt, shot and killed by Capitol Hill Police, while an officer from that force, Brian Sicknick, died from injuries sustained at the hands of the mob.
President Trump was permanently suspended from Twitter in the wake of the riot as the platform accused him of "incitement" of violence at the Capitol. Trump had asked the rioters to "go home" while offering them words of encouragement, including calling them "very special" and reassuring that "we love" them. Rudy Giuliani, Trump's lawyer, also found himself removed from Twitter in the wake of the riot.
The decision has alarmed many conservatives, amplified by the many politicians, journalists, and other public figures who have called to take action to prevent Trump officials being hired after they leave the administration. Conservatives have cried fowl, seeing it as another example of cancel culture.
Shortly after the election in November, for example, Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to advocate for the documenting of Trump "sycophants" while others were compiling a list of officials for what they called the "Trump accountability project," which was designed to prevent Trump officials from gaining further employment post-administration. The project was ultimately cancelled as President-elect Joe Biden called for unity.
More recently, Forbes's chief content officer Randall Lane published an op-ed telling companies not to hire former Trump administration officials, saying that they should help "create repercussions for those who don’t follow the civic norms."
"Let it be known to the business world: Hire any of Trump's fellow fabulists," Lane wrote, "and Forbes will assume that everything your company or firm talks about is a lie."
Lane later claimed that he was not advocating for cancel culture as Trump officials could still find employment in conservative-leaning organizations.
"While cancel culture kicks into high gear, and blacklisting of our names for future employment is underway, stay strong, and we will all prevail," Scavino said.
