The Democrat governor of Connecticut has said that he will not extend the mask mandate, saying that it is ineffectual against the latest COVID variant, according to the Daily Wire.

The governor, Ned Lamont, pointed to New York City as his example. He said the New York situation shows that masks do not "curb the spike."

The governor made these comments during a press conference about the state's methods in combatting COVID-19. When asked about masks, Lamont said "well, it’s not curbing the spike down in New York City, which is probably ground zero."

"If I think about things, I certainly think about nursing homes and other congregate settings where I think the booster shot is probably the number one priority, to make sure everybody that can be boosted is boosted there."

"That would be my next priority, added Lamont near the end of the press conference.

Instead of masks, Connecticut has had an aggressive testing program. They have given out a number of COVID-19 tests. Lamont said that they had distributed more than 42,000 tests in recent days.

Lamont also discussed the hospitalization rate, saying that 80 percent of those who ended up in hospitals with COVID-19 had been unvaccinated.
