Texas Democrat Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee revealed a new radical gun control bill which, if passed, would require a slew of harsh 2nd Amendment infringements, Fox News reports.
The Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act would reportedly require gun owners to partake in a mass gun registry, undergo psychological evaluation, mandate stricter licensing be required by buyers and sellers, and establish stricter penalties for gun infractions.
The bill would make owning or selling a firearm without a new form of licensing illegal. The legislation's name comes from a Pakistani exchange student who was killed in a Texas school shooting, according to Fox News.
The bill would also require information be provided on criminal history, mental health history, as well as where the gun will be stored by the owner in their own home, according to the Western Journal.
The new restrictions would extend to antique weapons as well as magazine sizes. Fines for infractions would have a minimum amount of $75,000 and could include prison time, Reason reports.
Additionally, it would require owners to pay for insurance and ban ammunition of .50 caliber or greater, except for law enforcement.
The U.S. attorney general would reportedly have jurisdiction over licensing via the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
