Disney parks across the world including in Orlando, Tokyo, and California will drop the famous "Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls" pre-show greeting in order to be "gender inclusive."
The classic greeting is voiced by Jack Wagner, know as "the voice of Disney" who's voice appears at all Disney-themed parks. It is estimated that crowds have heard Wagner say the greeting more than 8 million times across the world. The new greeting is "Dreamers of all ages" which first appeared ahead of the "Happily Ever After" fireworks display on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail.
Many including former cast members and Disney employees voiced their displeasure on Twitter saying the original greeting is an important part of the Disney experience. In March, Disney changed some greetings from "Ladies and gentleman" to "Everybody" to make sure patrons of all sexual and gender identities feel "comfortable in the park."
The parks has also closed multiple rides in order to revamp the attractions and remove "negative depictions" of different marginalized groups. Disney also placed warnings and multiple Disney+ shows to warn of non-politically correct content.
Disney has been meeting monthly with a group of women and social justice advocates who spend their days reviewing Disney content and making note of things that are no longer politically correct. A new warning appears on many classics like The Jungle Book which reads, "This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures."
"These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now. Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together," Disney said.
Disney has closed Splash Mountain and Jungle Cruise to remove what might be deemed offensive. Splash Mountain was closed to remove its associations with black stereotypes in the 1946 film "Song of the South," on which it was based. Jungle Cruise is currently being cleansed of anything showing "negative depictions" of native peoples that show them as "savages," Disney said earlier this year. Disneyland in California is also coming under attack since reopening for a Snow White ride which depicts true love's kiss as not demonstrating consent.
