Doug Ford says Brampton house party attendees should be fined $800

A Brampton house party with roughly 200 people in attendance was broken up by police on Saturday night after the people organizing the it attempted to conceal the party from their neighbours and others by keeping it off of social media, reports CP24.

Ford has suggested that the people who attended the party should receive an $800 fine.

According to Peel Regional Police, they received a call about a house party taking place close to Goreway Road and Countryside Drive on Saturday night.

When speaking with CP24, one of the neighbors said that attendees were being watched to ensure that they were not filming the event and uploading it to social media.

The yard and road was reportedly packed with cars and officials say security was hired by the organizers to park the vehicles.

Videos were eventually posted online showing a large number of vehicles parked near the home. Barriers were also raised in the backyard so others could not see what was going on.

After arriving at the party, it took police roughly an hour to send the attendees home.

The homeowners are facing charges under the Emergency and Civil Protection Act according to Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown’s spokesperson. He added that a number of other homeowners were charged on Saturday for separate parties.

When speaking with CTV News Toronto, Brown said he thinks that people who participated in the parties are not aware that the pandemic is still going on.

Brown called it “grossly irresponsible.”

Peel region gatherings currently have a limit of ten people under the province's emergency rules and guests are supposed to distance themselves from members of other households.

Multiple recent coronavirus outbreaks have been blamed on parties in the Ottawa area.
