Dr. Anthony Fauci said on CNN Sunday that he agreed with President-elect Joe Biden's assessment that the darkest days of the coronavirus are ahead of the American people, not behind.
"We very well might see a post seasonal,... surge. And as I've described it, a surge upon a surge," Fauci explained.
"I share the concern of President-elect Biden that as we get into the next few weeks, it might actually get worse," Fauci continued.
As the CNN anchor noted, over 100,000 Americans spent the holiday season hospitalized from the coronavirus, and the nation is averaging roughly 2,000 deaths per day.
Despite how bad things presently are related to the pandemic, Biden addressed the nation Tuesday forecasting further hardship and darkness for the nation due to COVID-19.
"One thing I promise you about my leadership during this crisis: I'm going to tell it to you straight. I'm going to tell you the truth. And here's the simple truth: Our darkest days in the battle against COVID are ahead of us, not behind us," Biden said.
"We need to prepare ourselves, to steel our spines," Biden continued. "As frustrating as it is to hear, it's going to take patience, persistence and determination to beat this virus. There will be no time to waste in taking the steps we need to turn this crisis around."
