Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren has called for the government to crack down on crisis pregnancy centers, which she claims pretend to offer abortion services, but instead attempt to talk expectant mothers out of terminating their pregnancies.
Warren said she has co-introduced the "Stop Anti-Abortion Disinformation Act," with other Democrats to stop pro-life pregnancy centers that dissuade pregnant women from getting abortions. The bill complains that these pregnancy centers are "anti-abortion organizations that present themselves as comprehensive reproductive health care providers with the intent of discouraging pregnant people from having abortions."
The senator also made the claim that the crisis centers outnumber actual abortion clinics three-to-one in her state of Massachusetts. Unlike most abortion providers, crisis pregnancy centers actually provide prenatal and postpartum care for women.
Upon the introduction of the bill, Sen. Warren tweeted "With Roe gone, it’s more important than ever to crack down on so-called 'crisis pregnancy centers' that mislead and deceive patients seeking abortion care."
In response, actress Patricia Heaton posted a statement on her own pro-life crisis pregnancy center. According to the Everybody Loves Raymond star, rhetoric like Warren's is the reason for the center hiring armed security.
Sen. Warren's anti-women's health clinic tirade comes after a string of vandalism attacks on such centers after the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
Just last month, Christian pregnancy center Life Choices in Longmont, Colorado was the victim of an arson attack. First responders found graffiti messages on the exterior of the damaged building, saying "If abortions aren’t safe neither are you," reported The Denver Post. According to their website, Life Choices provides free pregnancy tests, free ultrasounds, post-abortion support, and abortion pill reversal. The clinic does not falsely advertise being an abortion provider.
